Swarthy's Barber Cosmetology Apprenticeship is a California State–approved apprenticeship program registered with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards. Swarthy's is the program sponsor and administrator. The trade is taught by each apprentice's sponsoring establishment and its licensed trainer; related supplemental instruction is delivered under the Los Angeles Unified School District as the local education agency.
Board Readiness is exam preparation. It is free, open to anyone, and not part of the program's instruction. Questions are written from the 2026 Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Act and Regulations, with reference to the Board's Self-Inspection Worksheet and Most Common Violations list. Where a topic is examinable but has no regulation on point, the answer names the exam content area rather than a section number. Regulations change — verify against the Board's current materials.
